Lectures

In 2005, Payam returned to the Royal College of Art to co-found a studio called The Globalized Idiot in the Architecture and Design Department. The course examined certain seemingly “wrong” approaches to architecture– repetition, misinterpretation, stubbornness, autism, amongst others– via polemical precedents in literature, fashion, cinema and urbanism. His speaking engagements have since included lectures and symposia at various universities, cultural institutions and festivals, including the ICA, London, the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw, Cycles and Seasons, Moscow, and the London Architecture Biennale.

Consulting

Payam has collaborated on bespoke cultural assignments with brands such as Nike, Colette, and Uniqlo. His work focuses on researching, redefining, and leveraging national identities via cultural content for the public and private sector. In 2006, he was approached by Russian Standard to define the cultural territory of contemporary Russia for the country’s leading consumer brand. He drew on aesthetic precedents, literary history and sociological research to draft a coherent yet complex case study of a country spanning 11 time zones and 300+ ethnicities.
